Shining with Solace: A Collaboration with Thireq Pecko

Shining with Solace

Thireq Pecko is a Thai artist who creates journeys through storytelling, emotions, and dreamlike reflections. His work explores solitude, introspection, and the delicate balance between reality and imagination, drawing viewers into a world of quiet poetry. He transforms philosophy and worldly ideas into art that evokes serenity, inviting reflection alongside the artist.

Artistic Process

For this print series, Thireq set two main intentions. The first was to explore new color palettes on Kozo's mulberry paper using Canon’s specialty color chart. The second was to create a gradual shift of tones from left to right, from the familiar to the unknown. The left side begins with the red hues that defined his earlier works, then slowly transitions into new shades he wanted to explore.

Kozo paper plays an essential role in this process. Its natural translucency, softness, and fiber texture allow color to sit gently on the surface while still breathing through the paper. As tones shift across the composition, the material responds subtly, reinforcing the sense of movement and emotional progression.

To shape the narrative, Thireq drew inspiration from three films that have stayed with him: The Tree of Life (2011), The Truman Show (1998), and What Dreams May Come (1998). Each carries an atmosphere that resonates with the theme of this exhibition, journeys through time, the search for meaning, and quiet transformations illuminated by light.

A Shared Reflection

This collaboration is less about technique alone and more about alignment. Shining with Solace reflects a shared belief between Kozo Studio and Thireq Pecko that paper can hold emotion, memory, and stillness. Through careful color transitions and a restrained approach to form, the work invites viewers to slow down, sit with uncertainty, and find comfort in the soft glow between light and shadow.

We are grateful to have been part of a collaboration that lets material and meaning unfold together, gently and honestly.
